Canadian National Champion!
After a quick trip back to Canada for the Canadian National Championships, I’m happy to report that I won the race and am for the 2nd time a Canadian National Champion!
It was a very exciting race held in Minden, Ontario at the Minden Wildwater Preserve which has hosted world cup events in the past. The coaches set a difficult course on this narrow and fast section of whitewater.
There was a difficult gate combination on the top section which required a surf across a hole into an upstream gate. I did it very well on both runs but it was my first run time that was the fastest of the day to hold on to the win.
In the afternoon we went on to the team event where my I paddled for Ontario with Kathleen Tayler and Thea Froehlich. We beat our rivals from Alberta and won the team race as well.
In the end it was Ontario that walked away with overall win with points adding up from the wildwater sprint and classic race, junior and senior slalom races as well at the team events.
